My Priorities as Sheriff

As your next Sheriff, I want to share my priorities and my commitment to the people of Washington County. Here is what I pledge to do:
1. Assessment and Listening
On day one, I will hit the ground listening — not just talking. I will spend my first weeks observing and speaking with staff at every level to truly understand the culture, strengths, and challenges within the Sheriff's Office before making any changes. The men and women serving this county every day have valuable insight, and their voices will matter in my administration. I will also pursue a professional Staffing Study through the International Association of Chiefs of Police to ensure we have an objective, expert assessment of where we stand.
2. Staffing and Training
Washington County deserves a fully staffed, well-trained Sheriff's Office. I will prioritize recruiting the best candidates, retaining our experienced deputies, dispatchers, corrections officers and staff, and investing in the professional development of every employee. I will also assemble a team to conduct a thorough review of all policies and procedures, updating them where needed to reflect best practices and the needs of our community.
3. Operational Efficiency and Technology
I will conduct a full review of the budget to ensure every tax dollar is being spent wisely — identifying any underfunded operations, unsustainable overtime, or equipment shortfalls. I will also evaluate our technology to make sure we are using tools that genuinely enhance officer safety and efficiency, and eliminate what isn't working.
4. Engaging with Stakeholders
Strong relationships are the foundation of effective law enforcement. I will continue building and strengthening partnerships with county officials, community leaders, and fellow law enforcement agencies throughout the region. Building trust, improving public safety, and tackling crime prevention all depend on working together. I will also work with staff to find new and meaningful ways to increase positive interactions with the citizens of Washington County — because this community is who we serve.
5. A Strategic Plan for Washington County
I will develop a clear, comprehensive strategic plan that defines the mission, goals, and objectives of the Washington County Sheriff's Office. This plan will be our roadmap for reducing crime, improving public safety, and making the office as effective and efficient as possible for the people we are sworn to protect.
